memorizing Psalms

I am currently memorizing  the Psalms 100. I have tried in the past, because I really like that chapter and since it is short ( 5 verses ) I thought it would be simply to learn. But I didn't manage it. This time I am more serious about it though!! I love memorizing Bible passages, and Psalm has some really great ones!

And apparently my 14 year old son must think so too! I will have to share with you this recent conversation I had with him so you can see what I mean.  I went up to his room one evening this past week, and he was on his bed with his open Bible studying verses.
Upon seeing me enter he calmly announced," I am going to learn all of Psalms."
I reply,  "You mean Psalm ,as in the book in the Bible with most chapters, and the one with the longest chapter no less"?!
He again calmly replied, " yes".
"Nothing like setting your sights high!", I declared.

With his great determination and ability and memorizing verses I don't doubt he could. Though it will probably be more like a life long goal, and not merrily a winter porject. That same evening we had that conversation he quoted off several verses he already put to memory. Including Psalms 23 and Psalms 93, along with numerous verses here and there through out Psalms, along with the first 12 verses of Matthew chapter 5.
He is definitely well on his way!! And I am supper proud of him!

I have always emphasised to the children the great importance in memorizing Bible verses, and had them learn different ones through out the years. And I have often found it to be quite a task to keep finding great verses for them to study, and to keep on top of them to do it.
But now recently my oldest son has took it up on himself to pick out and learn his own verses and passages. That couldn't make me happier!!

It takes great determination, and lots of repeating and repeating of the verses. My son also sings them. I think he finds that most helpful in the memorizing process. This is what fills a lot of his spare time.
I hope you find my son's goal inspiring, and challenging!  Now you will have to get out your Bible and start memorizing too!!

In Him,
Mae
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Psalm 119:11

Note:  After writing this post my son corrected me on the number of verses it was  that he can recite in Mathew chapter 5. It is the first 19 verses, not  12 as I had said. ( sorry about the mistake) Either way I am thoroughly impressed with his desire and ability to learn all theses verses!
