Books, I love reading to my children

Here I am again, over a month later!! Well whats my excuse this time? Just life I guess. Been thinking about alot of things I want to share though. Epesially when I wake at night, I start thinking of things I want to post, ( night is my best time to think!!) then come morning, I either forget till the next night, or just plain get too busy!!

This time my post is about books that I love to read to the children. I just love reading to the children so much. But for me it has to be material that is edifying, encouraging, uplifting, character building, instilling Godly principals, and so on. Yes, I know finding books like that can be very hard. Here I will share the books that I have and love , and a source where you can purchase them from Mennonite and Amish Pulishers.

My very first top chocie to read to them is the Bible!! Just love reading to them from the Bible. Of cource depending on the ages of children there is so much in the Bible that may be over thier heads at the time, but yet there is so much that they can understand, and you can explain the areas that they may not . At first that's what held me back from reading, I was thinking isn't this just wasting my time, they are to young to even know whats being read. But its the fact that they see you read it, and they see what is importian to you. And soon they will be understanding the word and gaining a love for hearing it. Your setting an example to them that will effect them for life!! Now we all look forward to our morning Bible reading time before starting school. The ages of mine right now are 9, 7 , 4 1/2, and 2. Its never to young to start reading God's word to them.

Here is a list of other books I am curently reading , the authors names, and a brief desription of each.

Story Time With Grandma by Mary Elizabeth Yoder

Character -building stories from everyday life and form the Bible make Story Time With Grandma a superlative teaching aid. Every page breathes fresh insights and truths for young listeners and readers too. Every story abounds in wit and wisdom clothed in childhood actions.

More Story Time With Grandma by Mary Elizeabeth Yoder

This book offfers more character-building stories from a grandmother. The author told many of these stories to her own children, stories from her own childhood, could-have-happened stories, stories of good times and bad- all are about familes and children and the importiant lessons they learned.

A Hive of Busy Bees by Effie M. williams

In a time when virtue and character seem almost old-fasioned, it is refreshing to find a little book of character-building stories. ( I would have to say this is both mine and the childrens top favorite book. It is so goood, and such wonderful and powerful lessons learned)

Mario a Belizean Boy by Elizabeth Wagler

Some more books I have but not read yet are,
Little Pete and Other Stories,
The Adventures Of Rusty and Ryan
A Horse Called Willing.

All of these are full of character-building and instilling Godly princpals.

All these I ordered at Christain Light Publications. The web site is http://www.clp.org/. They also have so many more wonderful books available like these. So worth your time to sit down and read.

Another source for books like this kind can be found at Rod & Staff Publishers, INC. They don't seem to have a web site, but thier phone number is (606) 522-4348. You can phone a request a free catalog.

If any any of my readers have books the you love reading to your childen please leave a comment and mention them. I am intersted in hearing of more good books!!
The time we take to read to our children is so worth while, and can be so powerful. So take a moment in your busy day and just sit and read and enjoy your self!! Your children will love you for it!!

Well untilll next time, In Christ Mae

Home Made Laundry Soap

I was gaven this recipe awhile back for home made laundry soap. I hvae made 2 batches just recently and it has turned out well for me. I wanted to share it here for others. Makes for cheap soap and with out a lot of effort either!!

Home Made Laundry soap
For one batch- you need a lg. bucket and a long handled spoon for stiring.
1/2 bar Fels-Naptha laundry bar soap, grated
3/4 cup washing soda
3/4 cup borax

Start boiling in lg. pot 6 cups water. Add the 1/2 bar grated soap. Stir untill dissloved. Remove from heat, and add the washing soda and borax. Stir untill dissloved.
Heat 4 cups water in a smaller pot or microvae till very hot. Pour this in your empty bucket. Then add your soap mix, And stir well . Next add 1 gallon plus 6 cups of very hot tap water, stir again. Then for several hours after stir occasionaly. Let set for 24 hours. I stir it again before I us it for the first time. Use about 1/2 cup per a load. It is a low sudsing soap.

Note. You can add more borax to the wash for heavier soiled clothes. I get the Fels- Naptha bar soap at my local haelth food store, along with the washing soda. The borax you can get at Wal-Mart.

Counting My Blessings!!

I have been thinking latly about all the things I have to be thankful and greatful for. So I want to share my list of things here.

Concerning God

I am so thankful that God Loved me before I even knew Him, and that His son died on the cross for my sins that I may have eternal life.

Thankful to God that he has my whole life in His hands and in his control, and that I have absolutly nothing to worry about!!

So thankful that God has great plans for my life, and that I can be used as an insturment for Him.

I am so thankful to God for all the many wonderful blessings in lfe.

Concering my husband and children

I am so greatful for such a wonderful husband that loves me so much ,and loves our children.

So thankful my husband loves God with all his heart and that he wants only God's will in his life.

So thankful he's a hard working husband who provides for his family so greatly!

I am thankful that God first, and then my husband is the head of our home

I am so blessed to be the mother of our four wonderful children. They are true blessings from God!!

I am so blessed to beable to stay at home with my children and to homeschool them. ( I realize not every mom has this oppurtunity or choice . Even at times when the children drive me so cracy I wnat to scream, I still am thankful!!)

I am thankful to God for all the oppurtunties I have with my children daily to teach them and instruct them in the way of the Lord! ( that is a true blessing, that we should not take for granted)

So thankful and greatful that we have bible time together as a family daily .

Concerning our home

So greatful this is a God fearing home.

So thankful this is T.V free home.

So greatful God is the center of our home

I am so blessed to have this home my husband and family built.

So greatful for our 10 acres with lots of trees that our children can run and play in, and being able to have a big garden spot to grow our own vegys! ( we may not always see the hard work of a garden a blessing, but it is!)

Concerning pregnancy and birth

I have been so blessed to have healthy pregnancies and uneventful births.

So thankful I was able to have a home birth for my last baby, and that all went well.

So thankful and greatful I have been able to nurse all my babies, thats a wonderful thing!! ( is so healthy for both mom and baby)

I am ever so thankful for this new baby growing in my womb. ( I have had 2 misscarges and know that life is a true miracle and a blessing that only God can give.)

I am so blessed that Lord willing I get to have my second home birth for this baby. ( I realize that home births are not always an option for all moms for various reasons, so I really need to be thankful for this.)

Concerning the people in my life

I am so greatful for my wonderful parents, and thankful that they raised me the way they did. ( homechooled, no T.V, fairly strict)

So greatful for thier strong faith and walk in the Lord, that has been such a good excample to me, and has been such a great help in my life ,and has made me who I am today.

I am thankful to God for putting other great people in life through the years that has been such a blessing an an encouragment to me in my mothering and in my walk with God.

So thankful for the homeschool group we are in and for the great encouragment and support they all are in my homeschooling journey. ( God knows what we need!)

I am so blessed in so many ways!!

With all these many many things in my life to be thankful for ,I don't have much to complain or grumble about do I? But our fleshly nature always finds somthing to be discontent with doesn't it? Like for instant our wonderful 10 acres is not along side the Peace River in Alberta!! ( thats my dream place by the way)

The next time you get down about somthing, or if somthing is just not going right, start counting your blessings! And think about all those goods things in your life and of all the things you have to be greatful and thankful for!! You will soon be feeling good again!!

"But Godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And haing food and raiment let us therewith be content." 1 Timothy 6: 6-8

"Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am , therewith to be content." Philippians 4:11

Contentment is a very wonderful thing indeed. Well I have ran out of words to write on this, so I better close for now.

I hope your life is full of God's wonderful blessings!!

School Days and Busy Days

Its been fairly busy at our house here the last while. So have not been able to post anything like I have wanted to.

We have been at school again for about 4 weeks now. Its going good, just was a little slow at first. Takes awhile to get a good routine going again. I have Clayton in first grade that requires my assistance with pretty much everything he does. Then Nathan is in fourth grade this year and he is doing nealy all of his on his own now. I just have to assit him with certain things and correct his work. I am so thankful that I get to stay home and school them rather than them going off to public school everyday, and not getting to spend the good quality time with them that I do. I am truly thankful to God for this!!

Life is busy alright! The little ones, Samuel, 4, and Sarah, 2, keep busy making noise and getting into mischief while I am busy helping their older brothers with school! Its a riot somthimes! I had considered putting them in a mothers-day-out program acuople days a week, but then for cost reasons decided against that, and I am glad I did. I truly do love to have them here with me everyday, but somtimes it does get hectic. Thats when they need a little more structure and discipline though.

Our newest blessing is due Jan. 28 ,2009. I have about 21 more weeks!! Everything is going good. I am so thankful for that! We do not find out what our little ones are ahead of time. So the birth is a great suprise! I do not even have a feeling of what this one may be. For my first 2 I just knew they were going to be boys, and they were! Then for Samuel I was so confident that he was a girl and had really got my hopes up, then at his birth I was very dissapointed!! So for Sarah I tryed not to think about it at all. Will be very happy with what ever God chooses to bless us with this time!! We are planing on a home birth again. Sarah was our first home birth, and it was such a wonderful experience! Looking forward to that agian!!

Our garden is nearly over for the summer now. Always glad when its over, though I do enjoy it! We did plant a few things for a fall garden though, spinach, swishchard, collard greens and turnips, which have yet to come up. Left from the summer garden we have orka, and peppers. I just harvested the rest of our corn yesterday, and got it put away in the freezzer today. All the children helped me, and we had lots of fun doing it. Got some great pictuers too!!

I had better not make this too long this time. I will try to post again soon.

Blessings in Chirst, Mae

Speaking words that are uplifting & encouraging to one another

Hi All!!

I have mentioned in pervious post that we are going through the family devotional book called ,OUR 24 FAMILY WAYS, by Clay Clarkson. Anyway in there we have just finished day 5 of way 7. Somthing we all certainly needed to to hear in our home.

( way 7) We encourage one another, using only words that build up and bless others.

Wow, wouldn't that be wonderful if we were able do that in our homes every day, all the time!!

In the devotional it went over scriptuers on that subject, and had a disscusion time of ways of how we can put that in to practice in our everyday lifes, and how we can encourage and build each other up more.

Hopefully we are the only family like this, but we can be awful rude to each other , and be harsh with our words to each other quite often it seems. Say things in haste that are not nice and unkind, but deep down of cousre we really don't mean it like it sounds. But now that we have been more aware of it, we have been trying hard to say things in a way that is uplifting to each other , instead of pulling one down ,or making each other feel bad, and having more patience with one another. This devotional has been very good for us.

Here I will share some scriptuers that we went over in the devotional and some I looked up in the Bible on my own.

" Let no corrupt comunication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minster grace to the hearers." Ephesains 4:29

" Not rendering eveil for evil, or railing for railing, but contrariwise blessing: knowing that ye are called, that ye should inherit a blessing." 1 Peter 3: 9

" And let the peace of god rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body: and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and amonshing one another in psalms and hymns and sprtitual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord" Colossians 3: 16- 17

" A soft answer tuneth away wrath : but grievous words stir up anger" Proverbs 15 :1

" A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: a word spoken in due season, how good is it!" Proverbs 15: 23

" Pleasent wors are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones." Proverbs 16 :24

" Let all bitterness , and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking , be put away from you, with all malice. And be ye kind one to another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake has forgiving you." Ephesains 4 : 31- 32

Wow, we are to be kind, loving, encouraging, and uplifting in all that we say and do!!

Somthing we definetly seem to have to work on all the time to put it into practice. Is so easy to say somthing in haste when we are upset at some one or somthing. But we need to stop and think before we speak and weigh our words thinking of the effect they will have on the one hearing it. We need to be showing God's love all the time.

Well this is what we have been learning at our house and just wanted to pass it on to others. Hope you find this encouraging, and may your hearts, your speech, and your homes be filled with kindnees , encouragement , love , and everything edifing, gloryfing and uplifting!!

Blessings, Mae

What I love about gardening

I have been so busy in my garden latly, from weeding , tieing up tomatoes, keeping the vegtables picked , to cooking, freezzing and canning all those yummy vegys. So to say the least some days I have been very overwelmed with it all! One day I even told my husband ,"I am not going to have a garden next summer, I'm going to take a year break from gardening!" But of course he was not conncerned , he didn't believe me for a mintue. He knows gardening runs in my blood and I couldn't possible do with out one! It is tempting though.

So any way since I had been alittle over done with the garden, and down about it, I thought I better make a list of all the things I truely love about gardening to pick me back up and give me new energy and a reason to get out there and what I do!! Hope fully this will give other Mom's encouragement as they get out in thier gardens too!

1. Theres nothing like walking out in your yard and pickng fresh vegys from your very own garden!

2. I love watching the exctiment on my kids faces when they spot the firts ripe tomatoe for the season!

3. And you can't beat the yummy flavor of that vine ripened tomatoe either!!

4. I enjoy working in the soil with the kids and planting the seeds together, they love it so much and are learing alot while they are at it!

5. Canning and freezing vegatables may be alittle hard while its being done, but later in the year it is so handy to open a jar or get a bag out of the freezer, making for easy meals, and I am always so glad I did it!

6. Nothing like home made dill pickles!

7. It saves me a whole lot at the grocery store and home grown taste so much better than store bought!

8. The children are such a big help to me in the garden and I am happy knowing they are learning such importian skills while they are at it, and gaining a love for gardening just like my slef!

9. I love watching the palnts grow and get so excited when those first fresh vegys to get ready to eat!

10. Need somthing for supper? No need to drive to the store, just walk to the garden!!

11. I know where my vegy.s are grown and whats not sprayed on them!

12. Meals are quick and easy with a big varity of vegtables from the garden!

There I believe thats all I can think of! See it really is worth all this work to have a garden! I must admit I am glad when the garden is over for the summer though!

If you have things you love about gardening I would love to hear them. So put them on a comment!
Have a great day, and don't let your garden get the best of you!!

Dill Pickels!

I just come from the garden picking some more little cucumbers, and plan to make another batch of dills yet today or tomorrow . Any way that reminded me that I said I would post my dill pickle recipe here. So here it is!!

Dill Pickels
1/8 tsp. alum
3 clove garlics
2 heads dill
1 hot peper ( if you want them hot)
Put each of the above items per a quart jar, and fill with the cucumbers.
Then put the below ingredents in a pot and bring to a boil.

1 quart vinegar ,either cider or white
1/2 c. pickleing salt
3 quarts water
While i am getting this mixtuer ready I put my packed jars in a pot of water and let them set in the boiling water about 5 mintues. ( just set them on somthing to keep them off the bottom of the pot.) This step heats the cucumbers in the jar and helps the jars to seal better. Then pour the vinegar mixtuer in each jar leaving 1/2 in. space a the top of the jar, and put the lid on tightly. ( also can have your tins in a little pot of water and helps for sealing too) Makes 6 to 8 quarts. Any extra vinger mixtuer can be saved for the next batch. Pickles are ready to eat in 3 weeks!

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave me a comment and I will get back to you on it. Have a great Day!

Pickled beets !

Hi,
In my garden right now we have an abbundance of beets so I have been making pickled beets to eat fresh and to cann so I will share the rescipe here.

Pickled Beets (my Moms recipe)
1 tbls. corn starch
3/4 tsp. salt
1tbls. & 1 tsp.sugar
2/3 c. water
1/4 vinager
2 c. cooked cubed or sliced beets ( boil beets whole with a bit of the top and the root on so they wont loose thier color, cook about 2o to 35 depending on thier size. Then easily slip off the skin and cut up the way you choose.)

Mix cornstarch and sugar and salt in cooking pot, then blend in the vinegar and water. Bring to boil and cook one mintue stiring. Add beets. Serve hot or cold.

This recipe can be made big for canning. To prepare for canning I made this mixtuer but did not add the beets , I put the beets in the jars and then fill them on up with the vinager mixture. Then put on the lids an process hot water bath for 30 min.s for quarts. For cannning the beets do not need to be fully cooked, boil about 15 to 2o min. just to beable to slip the skins off.

If you have any questions , please leave me a comment and I will get back to you soon.
I will share my rescipe for dill pickels soon. I made my first batch of those for this year on Firday. We all love dill pickels here and can eat alot!!
Have a great day! Mae

Being Doers of the word.

Its quiet at my house right now, My husband and our little girl went to visit his Mom, and the boys are out playing in the woods!! So the house is very quiet and peacful for the moment! Wow, almost unbeliveable!! Was busy this morning though, I made a batch of bread, done a load of laundry, and finished planting the okra. So I deserve this momment now!

DOING THE WORD OF GOD

In my last post I talked about how important family devoitional time is. But of course our children need to more than see and hear us reading God's word daily, but see us living it out. Taking it to heart and doing the word of God. Thats what will go far with them! We could read daily and even have great portions of the Bible memmorized and not do us any good or them any good, if we do not have God's spirit living in us and taking heed His word and living it out. We are not be hearers only but doers of the Word of God.

Be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word but not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself and goeth his way, and straight way forgeteth what manner of man he was. James 1: 22-24

Ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 2 Timothy 3:7

Never stop teaching and showing your children the right way! Your life will be so blessed for it, and you will be so rich and full in the Lord!! Your reward will be so great in heaven!!
WISHING ALL YOU WONDERFUL MOTHERS A GREAT MOTHERS DAY!!!

Untill Next Time, InChrist, Mae

Family Devotions & why they are so importain.

In pervious posts I mentioned that we just got the family devotional book called, Our 24 Family Ways. Well we have really been enjoting it so far. Theres 5 lessons or 5 days for each way, and we are on day 3 of way 2. We have missed a few days through out the time we started it. But we try to it every morning or eveing. The kids really get involved in it and really look forward our devotional time together. I have also made this huge chart that i put on the fridge with all 24 of the ways. Is so handy to see them at a glance, and can refer to them any time. Besides doing this devotional book together we also had been and still read a children's bible together, it easier for the kids to understand than just reading from the Bible and they really enjoy it!

I am so grateful and thankful that we are having these devotional times together. We haven't always been doing this. We would off and on but not regular at all. I would read to the boys every morning before we'd start school and pray together, but was not the same as doing it together with the whole family. And with Dad leading the devotional time and praying with us after. Now that we are committed to doing this regularly, if my husband goes off too early in the morning, then we will plan on it for the evening, before bed time. My husband drives truck though so his schedule is not always the same, he may be gone both early in the morning and home too late as well. Either way I will still read to the kids before we start school ,but save the devotional book to when we can all be together.

I feel Bible reading time together is so very important. It helps us to learn how God wants us to live and grow closer and stronger in Him. It is also setting an example for our children to pass on to their children. Also importain to have Daddy as leader of devotions, worship and prayer time, so that your sons can learn this and be ready to carry this on in to thier homes one day. If they do not see this and learn this in their homes growing up, it is not very likely that they will do this in thier own home as a parent either. So if not for your children's sake, do it for your grand children's sake!!! Yes, we are effecting the next generation! When you become a grandparent you most likly won't have much say in how your grankids are raised, but today as a parent you can have a huge impact in how your childeren will one day raise thier childeren, in just the excapmle you are giving them. I get exctied thinking about it, don't you!?

I encourage and plead that if devotional time is not consistenly a part of your daily life that you start to make it your top piroity now! If your husband leaves too early for work then set aside time in the eveing for it. Do what ever you have to make it happen, shut off the T.V. and commputer, unplug the phone, discontinue sports, lock the doors!! Just make sure you take 30 to 40 minutes a day to read and pray together! It will be so worth your time and effort! Let your children know what is the most importian thing in your life! Its funny how we can have time for the T.V , computer, books, sports , or other activities pulling us away from the home ,but not time for God. No its really not funny at all, its so very sad! Don't let this be true in your home! You have the power to stop this pattern! You don't have to let this continue.

I am very passionate about this, so I can kind of get carried away, sorry ! But it is a serious thing, and I hope all my readers do take it seriously! See I said I had good messages I wanted to share! And I have more yet to come, but for now I must get off. Need to feed the animals and the kiddos! It is raining right now, gosh we sure are getting enough rain here. Blessings, Mae

P.S Just wanted to say I would be glad to hear your comments on what you use and do for family devotion times, and what you do to make that time possible. Aslo would be glad to hear what you thought of this post. So comment now!

Been very beutifull weather here last few days! Not to hot and not to cool! We got a little rain here the other day, and more is expected later this week. Is great for our garden!
The gardens are growing like cracy! Unfortuntly the weeds have been too, so been busy hoeing, and tillling! Now it looks wonderful at this moment! I think we are finished with the planting now. Just planted the orka, and reseeded corn yesterday where some of it did not come up. Wow, nice to have that done! We already have been eating lots of vegys from the garden. Lettuce, brocille, beets, spinach, radishes, swish chard, and collard greens! Yummy! Been putting spinach and swish card in the freezer as well.

Nathan is still busy with his grade 3. We are both very anixous to be through for the summmer. Me, because I have plenty other things to do now with the garden, and Nathan ,because it is so beutifull out side and he wants to be out there all the time!! We have a about 2 more months to go. This winter we plan to start school ealier so that we will finsh in the spring ealier. Clayton is all through with kintergarten, so I am so happy for that! Just one left to go! We can do it!!

Samuel's posion ivy is all cleared up! So far he has not picked any more! Yea! Sarah hasn't got in it so far, so am glad for that.
Snakes are out and about now, so got to be on the alert for those. Seen acouple around here already. Yikes! I can't stand the snakes!!
Ok, I better get off here now. Will continue to work on some wonderful messages I want to post on my blog, and hopefully make another post before long.
Keep strong for the Lord, and stand up for whats right!!!

Dieing to the flesh, Living More for Christ!

Good Morning!
Well looks like I have the time I was wating for to make that post. So here goes!
Romans 8 :5-13
5 For they That are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh:but they that are after the spirit the things of the spirit.
6 For to be carnely minded is death; but to be spirtually minded is life and peace.
7 Beacuase the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, niether indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the spirit , if so be that the spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the spirit of Christ, he is none of His.
10 And if Chirst be in you , the body is dead beacuse of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of Him that riased Jesus from the dead dwell in you , he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefor, bertheren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall ive.

I am crusified with Chirst: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Chirst liveth in me: and the life I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me. Glations 2:20

I protest by your rejocing which I have in Chirst Jesus our Lord, I die daily. 1 Corinthians 15:31

We have to die to the flesh so we can live completely to God. Dieing to the flesh and self desieres is not not always easy , its somthing we have to wrok at, and is not somthing we can just do once, we must die daily to self. The more we we walk in His Spirit and our lives are more in tune with His, the eaiser it gets. We can not go part way in serving God, its got to be the whole way! God wants out whole heart, our comlete life, not just a part of us!! And when we give our live completely to him and no longer whant to live our way, what we want ,but what He wants in our life, then can He truly work in our lives! Our lives will be a glory to Him, and He will bless us they way He so desries to do!! Heres 2 verses I love.

Delight thy self also in the lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Psalms 37:4

Fear not littel flock; for it is your farther's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32

There is so many verses in the Bible on Gods promises of His Blessings for His people and His great protection over them. All we have to do is give our life to Him and total walk in His ways!!

Why don't you pray this with me this morning. "Lord help me to die more to the flesh and to myself today, so that you can live more abundently in me. Die to my fleshly desries, wants and wishes, and live more fullly for you , seeking your desires, your plan, and will for my life, that I may be a glory to you. Let it be no longer I that liveth Lord, but you that liveth in me, Amen."

Have a very wondeful day!! Blessings, Mae

Happenings around my house & annoucement for upcoming post

Greetings from Mae!!
sorry it has been ahwile since I have been able to post, I have not had a lot of time. I need a prety good block of complete quite time undisturbed, to make a good in -depth post!! And you know as busy mommy of litttle ones that does not happened to often! This morning I have my 2 youngets awake and running aroung me, so I am not plannning on posting what I wanted too, I will just give a brief update, so you know I am still around!!
Rain!
Not alot new here. We have had a lot of rain though, and more to come! So our gardens are very muddy once again!! At least we nearly are through planting, although I did have a few more tomato plants to set out. And orka which we don't plant till about May first. In order to go in the garden to pick our lettuce, spinach, collard greens and beet, greens, we will have to put on rubber boots!!
Posion Ivy!!
Oh ,my youngets son Samuel came in the house carrying a huge handful of posion ivy on Monday morning, and ploped it on my kitchen floor!! Well i emediently told him to pick it up and carry it back out!! That night he hollars from his bedroom, so I go in there and he tells me he is scratchy! So we go in to the bathroom and rub calimine lotion all over him. We had to do that several times durning the week. He is almost over it now though. Atleast he did not get it as bad as I do with blisters, he only had red itchy areas. Well maybe he has learnt his lessson of posion ivy!! It is all over out in the woods right now.

New book
Well the book I ordered came in yesterday!( Our 24 Family Ways, Family Devotioal Guide) I have looked it over and what I see about it looks really good. I am very excited about it and looking forward for us to get started in it!! Its family devotionals teaching children godly characters and bicbical values. Its very nicly liad out. I have added it in my book list on the right. As we work through it I will post more about it.

Well I must close for now, my little ones are going cracy!! I have big plans for futuer post but do not know how soon I will have time to do it. In the mean time I will pray and study and make notes of what I plan to write. The first one I want to write about is on, dieing to self and living more fully and abundtly for Christ! The more we die to the flesh the more God can live in us and work through us. I get exctied about it!!
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Him self for me. Glations 2:20

Have a wonderful blessed day!! In Christ, Mae

Update from my house & memorizing Bible verses

Good Morning from Mae's House!
Well we thought it was going to freeze this morning, so last night the boys and I ran around covering all the tomatoes , plus a bunch of pepper plants I just set out on Sunday. We had atleast over 60 plants to cover!! And after all our work I believe it never froze, wouldn't you know it! It just 36 F right now. But i guess that's good, because some our coverings were only shopping bags anyway, so may not have helped alot any if it really did freeze! So now we have to uncover everything his morning! We will keep everything close by though ,I believe its a chance of frost again tomorrow morning, and it may be for real this time!!!

Planting
Yes we have done some more planting since last week. Besides pepppers i set out, I planted more green beans, yellow squash, zuzchini, and cucumbers. Plus Nathan planted pumpkins over in my brothers garden. He has big plans of selling them, and of course letting mommy bake him some pies and cakes too! This will be our first time of trying pumpkins. It will be interesting to se how they turn out! We are not really big time gardeners, we just like to plant for our own use (I freeze and cann alot), then if we have extra we give it to our nighbors, may sell alittle. I just love gardening!

Update on Mae
Well your probably wondering how my wisdom theeth pulling went last week. Well it went completely fine! The dentist pulled both at the same time, so I am all done! It was certianlly nothing to worry about. With the numbing stuff it didn't hurt at all. Really!! It was all over before I knew it! Glad I got them all pulled and done with. The only down fall is that probably now I have no more wisdom!! Oh well I can always pray for more!

Comments
Oh, for any of you that had problems leaving a comment, well I think i have that fixed now. I checked my settings, and changed somthing. So should be no problem leaving comments. So please do, I love hearing from my readers!! Also wanted to add those of you that have been keeping up with my blog so far, have probably noticed a new color to it every time they checked my blog out!! I keep tying out new colors and seeing how they look!! Was not satisfied with how it looked. But i think I will stick with what I got now! So no new colors in the near future! ( no promises though)

Memorizing Bible Verses
Just wanted to share what we have set up for our oldest boys to memorize bible verses. They both have their own verse to learn each week. Nathan ,almost 9, has a harder one, and Clayton going on 7, has a bit easier one. I write down their verse on an index card, and either they read it them selves or I read it to them several times a day, everyday durring the week. Then by Sabbath they are to say it to us by memory. I have made them each a chart, and if they can say their verse sucsessfully, they get a star for their chart. For Clayton when he get 3 stars in a row on his chart ,we get him a little prize . For Nathan I have it little more challenging, when he get 5 stars in a row we get him a prize. So far Nathan has not missed a verse this school year!! They are both very proud of their accomplishments! They try very hard to learn their verse to get their stars and to get the prize! I think its a fun way to help them memorize verses and learn the Word of God. I am learning most of their verses right along with them too.

Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sing upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. And ye shall teach them your children ,speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way ,when thou liest down, and when thou riesest up. Proverbs 11: 18-19

Well I will close for now, need to make the family breakfast, and get ready for another day of school here. Aslo must run out to the garden and uncover everything!!
Have a great day! In Christ, Mae

My Favorite parenting books and books that give me inspiration!

Good Morning from Texas!
We had another cold spell here. We thought it was going to freeze Sunday morning so Sabbath eveing we covered all our tomatoes, but then it never, it just got down to 36F. Our garden is still very wet, so havent got in there to plant anyhting eles, and I can't even hoe!!

You will notice over to the right of my blog I have added somthing new, a list of my favorite parenting books, and other books that give me inspiration and encouragement as a wife and mother. I wanted to share them on my bolg so others may also find them helpful. As I see it we never can get too much encouagement! Here i will briefly tell about each book in the oder they are listed, and you will beable to see if it would be a good book for you.

Above Rubies, By Nancy Campbell. Above Rubies is a magazine to encourage women in thier high calling as wifes , mothers, and homemakers. Its purpose is to up hold and strenghthen family life and to raise the standard of God's truth in the nation. The Name has been chosen from Proverbs 31:10. To learn more about Nancy Campbell and the Above Rubies minstry visit the web site I have on the right, just above the book list. There you can also sign up to recive the magazine. This is my all time favorite christain magazine, and eagerlly await the arrival of each one! I highly recomend this to all mothers! You will be trully blessed!!

Baby Wise, by Gary Ezzo and Robert Baucknam, MD. This books main goal is to help parents to get thier babies on a schudle and to sleep through the night by just a few months of age, weather nursing or bottel fed. But this book strongly supports nursing. I found its advice very helpful, and having the baby ona nursing schudle was a life saver for me, but my youngest at 21 months is still nursing at night!! But atleast i now have her down to only one time, that must count for somting!!

ME ? Obey Him? by Elizabeth Rice Handford. This book is about God's plan for wifes to be obedient and submissive to thier husbands. Very in depth and packed full of scriptuers. It is written very well, and deffently a must read if you are struggeling in this area. It will make you feel so good about your role as a godly submisseve wife and not just a door mat as the world wants us to feel. By obeying our husbands we are obeying God, and as wifes we have a very powerful and importain role!!

Power Of A Praying Wife, by Stormie Omartain. This book may be geared more towards struggeling marraiges, but is wonderful for any wife. It teaches wifes how to pray for thier husbands and to hold thier marraiges strong in any circumstance. It covers 30 differnt topics that concern our husbands and how to pray for our husbands about each of those issues. As we all know no matter how wonderful our husbands are ,they are not perfect. This book helps us as wifes how to deal with those imperfect ways through Love and in Pray. The author strongly believes that divorce is not an option, and thats another thing I really like about the book
.
Power of Mother Hood, by Nancy Campbell ( author of Above Rubies). I will write a piece from the introduction of this book. " This manual takes you in to the scriptures to see God's heart and mind for women and mothers. The word of God is so wonderful. It does not leave us guessing about what to do, even in the most practical matters of mother hood. All the power we need to fullfill this great calling is found in the Word of God, and all the wisdom we need for this mighty task is found in His Precious word." I would have to say this is my top favorite book in the list! Its very good!
Supper Nanny, by Jo Frost. For all of you that have watched the Supper Nanny show on T.V , know about Jo frost's methods of child training and correction. Well thats what this book is all about. It puts all of what she does in the show in the book , step by step, and age by age child training and setting up schudels for chidren. Very good book for mothers of little ones. I found lost of helpful advice in it.

The Mission of Mother Hood , by Sally Clarkson. I will write excatly whats on the back of this book. " Do you long for your home to be lifegiving and peacful? Is it your desire to pass on a legacy of righteousness to your children? Do you struggle to balance the duties of mother hood with a loving relationship with your children? Would you like creative ideas and direction for keeping your child's heart open to you and to the Lord? Discover how understanding God's purpose and design can empower you to be the mother you long to be." " No calling is greater, nobler, or more fullfilling than that of mother hood. Every day, as we nutuer out children, mothers infulence eternal destniy as no one eles can. Tracgically ,today's culture minimizes the vital importiance of a mother's role. By cathching a vision of God's origanal desing and allowing it to shape your life, you can resicover the joy and fullfillment that can be found in the strategic role to which God in all His wisdom has called you, for a purpose far greater than you can even imangine." A very good read!! Learn about the whole heart ministries and the rest of books offered by Sally Clarkson, at thier site on the list above the books.

To Train Up A Child , by Debie and Micheal Pearl . This book is about training your child to achieve total and instant aboedience, and to eliminate spanking. Of course they do believe in use of the rod but with proper taining will cut down on the need of that. This book shows you how to train your children so they will be a great joy and blessing to you. In one spot in the book it saids "how to 'house proof' your child, not 'child proof 'your house" Very good basic child training advice. Find out more about the No greater Joy Ministries at thier site. (Link above the book list on the right)

Even though I highly recomend each of these books, it does not mean I agree 100 percent with everthing in the books. As we need to do with all things , we need to take the good and leave the bad, and see how it compares with the scriptues. Well hope that you find this to be helpful to you. Just want to add also that any of you that are farmillar with these books I, would love for you to comment on them, what you liked or didn't like about them.
Well I am so glad I had this oppurtuinty to post this this. I started writing at 5: 30 a.m and it is now 6:30 a.m, and the childen are still sound asleep!! The time on the blog is wrong, I will change it when i figured it out if I can. In the mean time it makes me look like a real supper mom!! In just a few hours I go to get a wisdom tooth removed, and I am nervous about it.Then next week I am to get the last one removed! Ouch! But if I can make it through child birth I can make it through teeth pulling!! Will let you know how it went on my next post. For now, take care and God Bless! Mae

Well we got more rain here , started on Tuesday, and has been raining off and on ever since!
On Monday evening my husband did manage to do some tilling in the garden even though it was very wet, and I planted green beans, butter peas, and lima beans! Was excited to get that in before it rained again. Now we will have to wait awhaile again before planting some more things! But this rain will be really good for the thigs we did get in.
Atleast It feels like spring weather here now, for awaile earlier in March it was very hot(atleast to me), and it felt we had gone drictly from winter (a mild one at that) right in to summmer. I thought we were in for a long hot summmer! But feels like we will have srping for awhaile, yea!!

I have a three rescipes I want to post this morning. First is my own rescipe of yummy pinto beans, then dinner rolls and a chocolate cake. Wow, there you have a meal!!

1 pint tomatoes
2 beef buloin cubes, and salt and pepper
I soak beans 4 to 5 hours, then rinse and put freash water over beans , the water should be atleast a couple inches over the beans, can add more water as its cooking as neaded. Boil beans about 1 hour before adding the reast of the ingredinets. Then pile everything in there ,and continue cook untill beans are nice and tender, usaully only takes a couple hours. Bread and Granola rescipe!

Good Morning From my house!!!
Well my little kidos are still asleep this morning, so i have time to make a post!! I had been taking my commputer time after the children were in bed for the night, but my dear husband also wantd my time in the eveings, so now I changed my cuommputer time to the morning, and it works better for all of us!!
Yesterday was very beutiful here and warm! It was 79F for awalie! We did some planting in the garden. We set out some tomatoes, and planted corn. Our garden is really wet from the last rain we had here, so my husband was unable to til it up so we could plant more just then. Our garden is in a very low area and really holds the water.
Also yesterday I baked some bread and make a batch of grannola. This bread rescipe i came upon acouple months ago and just love it!! It turns out so soft and easy to silce, great for sandwhiches and toast! My other rescipe I was using would crubmle and tear easily while cutting. But i know i just had to be doing somthing wrong ,because it was the one my mom has used for many years. Any way heres the bread rescipe I use now!
American Sanwhich Bread
1 cup whole milk, warm
1/3 cup water, warm
3 tbl. honey
4 tbl. unsalted stick butter, melted and cooled
3 3/4 cups flour, plus extra for the counter ( I use part whole weat flour)
I envelope ( 2 1/4 tsp. ) rabip rise yeast
2 tsp salt
Wisk the milk, water, honey, and butter, together. In sperate large bowl mix together the flour, yeast and salt, add to milk mixture, and stir with rubber spatula till the dough comes together and looks shaggy. Turn the dough on to clean counter and kneed by hand to from a smooth ball about 10 to 15 min., adding a little more flour as needed so it wont stick to the counter. Transfer back to bowl and cover towel, and let rise about 1 hour till double in bulk. To make loaf , put dough out on floured counter and press dough out into 9in square. then roll up tightly, and press together along seams. Then place in greased and floured bread pan, cover with towel and let rise again about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Preheat oven to 350 degreesF. Befroe placing in oven brush top of loaf with melted butter. As you place your loaf of bread in the oven also place a bread pan beside it with boling water in it. Bake about 40 min. or untill nicly browned. Cool atleats 2 hours befroe cutting. You will love this bread!! It has a wonderful texture!!

I love granola! Can eat it for breakfast or for a snak any time durring the day! Also it makes a great topper for my yogurt fruit salsd which i will share too
Granola
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup vegtable oil
1/3 cup honey
4 cups oatmeal
1/2 cup dry milk
pinch of salt
Mix brown sugar, oil and honey in a sauce pan. Heat till sugar dissloves. Combine dry ingredients in a large ckae pan. Pour sugar mixtur over dry ingred, and mix well. Bake in 350 F for about 15 min, i actually stir it acouple times durring the baking, and may go over the 15 mintues abit. cool completly and store in jar. Its ready to enjoy!!

Here is a yogurt fruit salad I have made a couple times this last week and really enjoy!
Mae's Fruit Salad

Then mix in about 1 cup vanilla yorgurt ( more or less depending how much you like yogurt) Then sprinkel with granola ( I am liberal with the granloa)
sprinkel on the top of that with shredded coconut

The goal for my blog?

I really don't have one certain goal for my blog. This blog is just about my mothering and homeschooling journey. But I guess you could say the gloal is that everything on this blog will all be for the glory of God. I believe we are to be lights for God, and let our lights shine for others to see. That is my goal in life to be a shining light for the LOrd, and this blog is just an exstention of that.
In fact I named our home school Lights For Jesus Academy. We want to raise our children to be lights for Jesus. This comes from the verse in Mathaew. "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is i heaven." Matthew 5:16

Where in the world!
I just wanted to add that when you comment, I would love to hear where you live, now not excact locaions at all, just say the state, or provinece for Canada, or your country. Thought it would be fun to see where in the world my reders are!! I was born in Aberta,Canada, and also lived in B.C, Sask, and Manitoba, for awaile. So would be neat to hear if any one is from my neck of the woods!! Now i have been here in Texas for over 9 years. Its hot and dry in the summer , other wise its ok though. I miss all that wonderful snow from up north though!! This winter we did'nt get any snow at all , but when we do its only an inch or 2 and melts fast!

Alittle More about My Family!
We are a fun loving , easy going, God frearing family! We live in the country, with a bunch of chickens running around, puls 2 dogs and a cat! We have rabbits too, but they are in cages! we love to garden, and have things in the garden now. We just planted the early vegys that don't matter if it freezes, I'm anxios to get the rest of the vegys in though. I love fresh stuff from the garden! We love cammping and fishing, and just hanging out with our family! Last summer we took a trip together to my home place in Alberta, we all had a blast!
