I have been so busy in my garden latly, from weeding , tieing up tomatoes, keeping the vegtables picked , to cooking, freezzing and canning all those yummy vegys. So to say the least some days I have been very overwelmed with it all! One day I even told my husband ,"I am not going to have a garden next summer, I'm going to take a year break from gardening!" But of course he was not conncerned , he didn't believe me for a mintue. He knows gardening runs in my blood and I couldn't possible do with out one! It is tempting though.
So any way since I had been alittle over done with the garden, and down about it, I thought I better make a list of all the things I truely love about gardening to pick me back up and give me new energy and a reason to get out there and what I do!! Hope fully this will give other Mom's encouragement as they get out in thier gardens too!
1. Theres nothing like walking out in your yard and pickng fresh vegys from your very own garden!
2. I love watching the exctiment on my kids faces when they spot the firts ripe tomatoe for the season!
3. And you can't beat the yummy flavor of that vine ripened tomatoe either!!
4. I enjoy working in the soil with the kids and planting the seeds together, they love it so much and are learing alot while they are at it!
5. Canning and freezing vegatables may be alittle hard while its being done, but later in the year it is so handy to open a jar or get a bag out of the freezer, making for easy meals, and I am always so glad I did it!
6. Nothing like home made dill pickles!
7. It saves me a whole lot at the grocery store and home grown taste so much better than store bought!
8. The children are such a big help to me in the garden and I am happy knowing they are learning such importian skills while they are at it, and gaining a love for gardening just like my slef!
9. I love watching the palnts grow and get so excited when those first fresh vegys to get ready to eat!
10. Need somthing for supper? No need to drive to the store, just walk to the garden!!
11. I know where my vegy.s are grown and whats not sprayed on them!
12. Meals are quick and easy with a big varity of vegtables from the garden!
There I believe thats all I can think of! See it really is worth all this work to have a garden! I must admit I am glad when the garden is over for the summer though!
If you have things you love about gardening I would love to hear them. So put them on a comment!
Have a great day, and don't let your garden get the best of you!!

Dill Pickels!
I just come from the garden picking some more little cucumbers, and plan to make another batch of dills yet today or tomorrow . Any way that reminded me that I said I would post my dill pickle recipe here. So here it is!!
Dill Pickels
1/8 tsp. alum
3 clove garlics
2 heads dill
1 hot peper ( if you want them hot)
Put each of the above items per a quart jar, and fill with the cucumbers.
Then put the below ingredents in a pot and bring to a boil.
1 quart vinegar ,either cider or white
1/2 c. pickleing salt
3 quarts water
While i am getting this mixtuer ready I put my packed jars in a pot of water and let them set in the boiling water about 5 mintues. ( just set them on somthing to keep them off the bottom of the pot.) This step heats the cucumbers in the jar and helps the jars to seal better. Then pour the vinegar mixtuer in each jar leaving 1/2 in. space a the top of the jar, and put the lid on tightly. ( also can have your tins in a little pot of water and helps for sealing too) Makes 6 to 8 quarts. Any extra vinger mixtuer can be saved for the next batch. Pickles are ready to eat in 3 weeks!
If you have any questions, please feel free to leave me a comment and I will get back to you on it. Have a great Day!

Pickled beets !
Hi,
In my garden right now we have an abbundance of beets so I have been making pickled beets to eat fresh and to cann so I will share the rescipe here.
Pickled Beets (my Moms recipe)
1 tbls. corn starch
3/4 tsp. salt
1tbls. & 1 tsp.sugar
2/3 c. water
1/4 vinager
2 c. cooked cubed or sliced beets ( boil beets whole with a bit of the top and the root on so they wont loose thier color, cook about 2o to 35 depending on thier size. Then easily slip off the skin and cut up the way you choose.)
Mix cornstarch and sugar and salt in cooking pot, then blend in the vinegar and water. Bring to boil and cook one mintue stiring. Add beets. Serve hot or cold.
This recipe can be made big for canning. To prepare for canning I made this mixtuer but did not add the beets , I put the beets in the jars and then fill them on up with the vinager mixture. Then put on the lids an process hot water bath for 30 min.s for quarts. For cannning the beets do not need to be fully cooked, boil about 15 to 2o min. just to beable to slip the skins off.
If you have any questions , please leave me a comment and I will get back to you soon.
I will share my rescipe for dill pickels soon. I made my first batch of those for this year on Firday. We all love dill pickels here and can eat alot!!
Have a great day! Mae

Being Doers of the word.
Its quiet at my house right now, My husband and our little girl went to visit his Mom, and the boys are out playing in the woods!! So the house is very quiet and peacful for the moment! Wow, almost unbeliveable!! Was busy this morning though, I made a batch of bread, done a load of laundry, and finished planting the okra. So I deserve this momment now!
DOING THE WORD OF GOD
In my last post I talked about how important family devoitional time is. But of course our children need to more than see and hear us reading God's word daily, but see us living it out. Taking it to heart and doing the word of God. Thats what will go far with them! We could read daily and even have great portions of the Bible memmorized and not do us any good or them any good, if we do not have God's spirit living in us and taking heed His word and living it out. We are not be hearers only but doers of the Word of God.
Be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word but not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself and goeth his way, and straight way forgeteth what manner of man he was. James 1: 22-24
Ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 2 Timothy 3:7
Never stop teaching and showing your children the right way! Your life will be so blessed for it, and you will be so rich and full in the Lord!! Your reward will be so great in heaven!!
WISHING ALL YOU WONDERFUL MOTHERS A GREAT MOTHERS DAY!!!

Family Devotions & why they are so importain.
In pervious posts I mentioned that we just got the family devotional book called, Our 24 Family Ways. Well we have really been enjoting it so far. Theres 5 lessons or 5 days for each way, and we are on day 3 of way 2. We have missed a few days through out the time we started it. But we try to it every morning or eveing. The kids really get involved in it and really look forward our devotional time together. I have also made this huge chart that i put on the fridge with all 24 of the ways. Is so handy to see them at a glance, and can refer to them any time. Besides doing this devotional book together we also had been and still read a children's bible together, it easier for the kids to understand than just reading from the Bible and they really enjoy it!
I am so grateful and thankful that we are having these devotional times together. We haven't always been doing this. We would off and on but not regular at all. I would read to the boys every morning before we'd start school and pray together, but was not the same as doing it together with the whole family. And with Dad leading the devotional time and praying with us after. Now that we are committed to doing this regularly, if my husband goes off too early in the morning, then we will plan on it for the evening, before bed time. My husband drives truck though so his schedule is not always the same, he may be gone both early in the morning and home too late as well. Either way I will still read to the kids before we start school ,but save the devotional book to when we can all be together.
I feel Bible reading time together is so very important. It helps us to learn how God wants us to live and grow closer and stronger in Him. It is also setting an example for our children to pass on to their children. Also importain to have Daddy as leader of devotions, worship and prayer time, so that your sons can learn this and be ready to carry this on in to thier homes one day. If they do not see this and learn this in their homes growing up, it is not very likely that they will do this in thier own home as a parent either. So if not for your children's sake, do it for your grand children's sake!!! Yes, we are effecting the next generation! When you become a grandparent you most likly won't have much say in how your grankids are raised, but today as a parent you can have a huge impact in how your childeren will one day raise thier childeren, in just the excapmle you are giving them. I get exctied thinking about it, don't you!?
I encourage and plead that if devotional time is not consistenly a part of your daily life that you start to make it your top piroity now! If your husband leaves too early for work then set aside time in the eveing for it. Do what ever you have to make it happen, shut off the T.V. and commputer, unplug the phone, discontinue sports, lock the doors!! Just make sure you take 30 to 40 minutes a day to read and pray together! It will be so worth your time and effort! Let your children know what is the most importian thing in your life! Its funny how we can have time for the T.V , computer, books, sports , or other activities pulling us away from the home ,but not time for God. No its really not funny at all, its so very sad! Don't let this be true in your home! You have the power to stop this pattern! You don't have to let this continue.
I am very passionate about this, so I can kind of get carried away, sorry ! But it is a serious thing, and I hope all my readers do take it seriously! See I said I had good messages I wanted to share! And I have more yet to come, but for now I must get off. Need to feed the animals and the kiddos! It is raining right now, gosh we sure are getting enough rain here. Blessings, Mae
P.S Just wanted to say I would be glad to hear your comments on what you use and do for family devotion times, and what you do to make that time possible. Aslo would be glad to hear what you thought of this post. So comment now!
