I have also been told, "nothings wrong with getting together with family and friends giving each other gifts, enjoying good food and so". I was told this as an attempt at justifying Christmas.
True, but that still does justify the keeping of Christmas/Jesus's birthday. Somthing that was built on pagan tradtions and customs.
Yes its fun and good to get together with our family and friends, enjoying each others company, and enjoy wonderful food that God has given us. I think God loves the gathering of people, because its when were together with others, that we can talk about Him and and share His love and share the wonderful things He's been doing in our lives. Even talk about His birth with others.
Of course for family gatherings to happen we need an arranged day or days it seems and of course everyone needs to have the same days off work. And as long as this world turns it I'm sure there will always be vacation time from work at Christmas time.
So i can see that time of year would be most appropriate time to gather. But you don't need the excuse of celebrating Christmas in order to do it.
Nor do you need the excuse of celebrating Jesus birth in order to give your children, others and even your self gifts!! Surprise a loved one with a gift any time!! They will be so happy you did!! You don't need an excuse to buy that certain thing you always wanted , but don't really need. BUY IT!! ( providing theres money of course)
Its so very sad but it seems to me Christmas has become a very materialistic thing (or i guess it always has). To me its all about giving, getting, eating great food, party's. Oh yea, we throw in there remembering Jesus birth, since thats what its suppose to be about anyway. And doing good things to others.
I have heard said we need to put Jesus back in Christmas. But its hard to do.
Do you know why its so hard to put Jesus back in Christmas? Its because Jesus never belonged there in the first place. And why is it so hard to make Christmas truly God honouring , because its not a Godly holiday, period.

My Christmas has ALWAYS been about family, presents and holidays. It really hasn't involved Jesus since we did Christmas plays at school as a child!
ReplyDeleteI should mention, in case you don't know, I am not Christian...although I pray and learn...and I'm always searching for why we are here.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteYou know I am at a loss as to what to say.
I guess when i was wrting this I just assumed whoever was reading had probaly kept Christmas for the sole reason that it was Jesus's Birthday and that they did it because they thought it was honouring to HIm. Now you kind of through me off!:)
I guess I would have to say that if it was just about family, and presents and having an enjoyable time for you. Then there would be nothing wrong at all with that.
To me thats the only way that Chritmas would be fine by God ,is if its somthing that we are not doing for Him.
I want to say thank you so much for following along with me on this.
I have felt it so heavy on my heart to share.
Oh and keep reading and learning and growing in HIM!!
I have to say, I still see that there is something wrong with the way we celebrate... spending money we don't have, to buy people things they don't need... I agree more with being thoughtful and frugal all year round... but I am still quite far from that!
ReplyDeleteThe family gathering and holiday in mid winter... is a great idea though, to have something to look forward to in the cold cold icy days of winter :) (up in the north here anyway)lol
haha, I know a lot of people who celebrate Christmas who are not Christian or wiccan... and I have to wonder... why???? It feels like it is just an excuse to give and recieve presents... this holiday has really become nothing to do with Jesus...
Does anyone know when Jesus was really born? I'm curious... I have heard that it wasn't December 25th...
Hey, i loved your comment!
ReplyDeleteYes i would say family gatherings in winter does sound very fun and a great idea!! Of course for us its still pretty warm here even in winter!LOl!! Hey, we did have 7 in. of snow here though on Feb. 12th. The kids had a blast!!
Very good thoughts.
I belive that Jesus's birth was in the summer time. One reason to support that is that the sheppards were in the field at the time of his birth. And it gets very cold over there so that wouln't make since for Dec.
