Here is an excerpt from a story book i am reading to the children. I totally love the book except i was disappointed when i read this.
Sunday is the Lord's day. The Bible says to 'Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it Holy.'
I am like what?
What in the world does Sunday have to do with that verse from the 10 commandments?
If that verse was written in it's completion then it would be very easy to see that one can not use that verse to support the keeping of Sunday.
8) Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it Holy.
9) six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work.
10) But the Seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.
11) For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it. Exodus 20:8-11
There is nothing in those above verses that links Sunday to the Sabbath that God was speaking of.
Some where through the years the Church has changed the sabbath from the seventh day to Sunday.
But God's commandment on that has never changed, not even in the New Testament, and never will.
Using that verse alone (Exodus 20:8) and using it as the churches do to justify Sunday, well you could justify any day then. That means if I decided to call Monday my sabbath, and kept it holy i would be fulfilling that 10 commandment just like all the Sunday churches are.
Sunday is not anymore the sabbath day or Lord's day than Monday or Tuesday is.
We are not to simply put any day in there that we want and call it Sabbath.
God clearly gave us a day for rest and worship, which is the seventh day.
I have seen so many times the 10 commandments posted in different places and every time i have seen it it, it is with the 10 commandment of the seventh day uncompleted.
It makes me hurt in side every time i see that. By writing the 10 commandments and leaving out such a vital part, is doing a terrible thing to this nation and to the people. It is so very, very sad.
It has to be breaking God's heart.
It is time the 10 commandments are written right.
It is time that parents teach them to their children. ( Deut. 6: 7-9)
And it is time they are taught to the people in the Churches.
I know some may wonder why does it matter which day we use to rest and worship and to keep holy, as long as we do keep a day.
Why does it matter?
Because God said so.
When God says something and gives a command on something, then that's the way it is to be, regardless if we understand why or not, or regardless if we think another way may be better or just as good.
You can see that time and time again in the Old Testament when God dealt with His people.
It is time for a great awaking to God's word and truth.
It is time to turn back to Him.
In Him,
Mae

but time has also lost itself after all those years nobody even kept track till after jesuses death so whos to say what day was meant to be the seventh day? there is no real proof saying that its saturday just because the names sound similar it could have been friday, i believe your just not sposed to work seven days straight i think it is very important for familys to have one day they put aside for rest and to study the bible together, and the main thing is you truly beleive without any doubts that you should, i mean if you dont really believe in setting aside one day out of your week for the lord and are just doing it because you were told to or for your image (wich many church goers do) then it dont count for much any way but the are some very good people who truly love the lord and follow him in all ways that are convinced it is sunday and they set that day aside for the lord:)so i beleive that the day isnt the important thing i believe it is your comitment to our good lord and truly loving him doing all things in your life for him ,....just my thoughts :)
ReplyDeleteGood comment.
ReplyDeleteThat could be true about the time being lost. But we have to go by the time we have to the best of our abilties.
You have very good thoughts on this for sure.
But i do not feel that we a have a right to do away with one of the 10 commandments.
and like you said we are to love God and do all things in our life for him, well if we truely love Him lkie we say we do, we will be willing to show Him by resting on the day He gave to us. We may have to sacrifice a bit to do it, but if we love Him enough we wont mind at all.
It will be our joy!!
And why would we choose Sunday, a day that was used for pagan worship of the sun.
Thanks for your thoughts!
